Nilo the wonder cat

THis precious little man is Nilo. With his exceptionally friendly nature, he became a victim of a dog attack. Nilo was bitten in the face and eye. A trip to the Emergency Pet Clinic was required where emergency surgery was performed. The excellent veterinarian, Dr. Susan Leonard, did everything possible to reposition his eye but it required enucleation. Nilo now only has one eye but that eye is perfect. Nilo has adjusted to his disability with ease, playing often with his favorite green mouse. Nilo is very loving and affectionate and will have no further problems with his vision in the future. His stitches will be removed this week. Nilo is ready for adoption into a very safe indoor only environment.

Nilo is five months old, neutered, fully vaccinated and tested for diseases. Donations are needed to help pay for his emergency eye surgery. Please donate at www.tejasrescues.org , or mail to TRPA, P.O. Box 790372, San Antonio, TX 78279.

I'm Jake and I am about 7 months old according to the Vet. I was rescued in San Antonio, unfortunately my foster parents land lord won't let them keep me. So I am looking for a new home with a loving family. I have had all my shots and I'm scheduled to be fixed on 10/27/09, I have been given a clean bill of health from the Vets office. This is Sam, the beagle/terrier mix

Sam was abandoned by his owner. He is now living with someone who was nice enough to let him stay, but she is not a dog lover. So Sam stays in the laundry room by himself all day and all night. He really would like to have a family that will play with him and give him attention.

Sam is a Beagle/Terrier mix and is about 7 months old. He has been neutered, vaccinated for rabies and parvo/distemper. He was also screened for heart worms which came back negative. Sam is now on preventatives for heart worm and flea/tick. Sam weighs 50 pounds and according to the vet's office he should not get much bigger than 55 pounds.

As far as is known, Sam is crate trained. He plays well with kids and other dogs. Sam does have some obedience training and walks well on a leash.

Sam is a good boy and wants to find him a good home.

Princess the cat!

Beautiful Princess is a cat who was well cared for and loved, then her human lost her job, and then was evicted, so as much of a shock as it was to her to have come to this (as it would be any of us), she had to move into a homeless shelter until she could figure something else out. She was devastated. She has no family here or friends to take her in. She called sobbing about having to give up her very well cared for cat, Princess.

Super cute Lab Mix!!

This sweet girl was found this past weekend in a community center parking lot. She was flea-infested and kinda skinny. She has been given a bath, spray and drops for the flea infestation. She is currently being kept outside with 2 circulating fans. This girl looks like a lab mix, about 1-2 years of age, very sweet but a little scared. This beautiful girl is Gracie! She is up for adoption because her current owners just had a new baby and don't have enough time to devote to her. Gracie is also having a time getting used to the baby (She is located in San Antonio). She needs to go to a no dog no cat home and to a home where she can get a lot of exercise. I picked this girl up after she tried to make a left on FM-78 and merge into traffic. She is a very sweet girl who wants to play with my dogs and cat. She is currently getting her shots and she was estimated to be about 4 months old and is 30lbs. The vet also said that she looked like a beagle/shar-pei mix. We are working on leash training! She loves to lay in the kiddie pool and eat the water that comes from the hose-which means she would be a great dog to take to the lake!! This is Sage. The bottom picture is what she looked like when she was rescued from the 281 and 410 interchange. She was covered in oil, smelled like exhaust, and was hiding in garbage scared to death. She was taken in and her personality is beginning to shine. She is approximately 8-9 weeks old, and will be getting spayed and vaccinated this month. She has a lot of energy, just like any kitten, and would love to find a home with another pet to play with. This beautiful great dane mix was an owner surrender. Upon entering the shelter, he was very shy and scared. He didn't even want to go out into the yard. I'm not sure of his past. After a rescuer spent 15 minutes with this guy, he responded by relaxing a bit and letting the rescuer pet him and sit with him. He is a gentle dog that needs some love. He is a big guy, but has a sweet nature. Give him a chance and he won't let you down. He is located at the Boerne Animal Shelter. Go by and sit with him to see what a great dog he can become!! .

Lilo, the chinchilla

This is Lilo, a 4 1/2 year old chinchilla! She is a very curious and sweet girl, but would probably have more fun in a home with older kids. She likes to be out and about and enjoys being around people, but doesn't always like to cuddle. She would need to be an indoor pet since chinchillas don't fair well in the heat and would probably do best as an only pet (no additional chinchillas please)

She eats chinchilla food which can be purchased at a feed store for about 14 dollars for 25# bag, (would probably last 6 months or more) and she would need timothy hay from time to time. She loves little treats such as raisins and would need plenty of chew toys. A cage could be provided if needed. Animals seized in animal cruelty raid-up for adoption

These dogs were in a bad situation, but thanks to Bandera County, they have a second chance at a great life. On Friday, June 12, 2009, Bandera County seized 19 dogs in an animal cruelty raid. All of them have had a major flea infestation causing sores, but they are negative for mange. One of them has a broken foot and is at the vet getting pain meds. All of the dogs have very nice temperaments, which will make them great pets with a little love and care. I have a picture of each dog. Shelly, female german shepard mix

Shelly is approximately 4 years old. She is spayed, has all of her shots and is micro chipped. She weighs about 52 pounds. She does not get along well with other dogs, however, she might get along well with a small male dog, because she gets along well with Napolean, her poodle friend. It would be great if these two dogs could be adopted together, however if they get adopted separate would be fine. Shelly needs to be adopted with older kids (teenagers or older).

She takes a while to warm up to and is now more friendly and settled. She is a wonderful, sweet loving dog and is very well behaved.

It is the season for precious furry babies. There are so many cute kittens to choose from, just look at all the pictures on this post.

Right now, the shelter has almost 25 different kittens from Siamese to orange Tabbies and Black & White to solid black. They are approximately 5 to 8 weeks old.

The shelter is starting to get them in 3 to 5 at a time. In the past two weeks, they have gotten 57 cats and kittens combined (most of them kittens)....they have only 15 small cages and 4 condos in their cat room, which means there isn't enough room for all the kitties.

Great Dogs at the Bandera Pound

Here are a few great dogs waiting to be adopted at the Bandera pound. Here is a bit of information on these guys:
Sarge, a young shepherd mix, male. He has a great personality just needs to be able to get out and run off some energy.
Shep, a husky/shep mix male. He is very quiet, loves people. Does not like other dogs messing with him but is very good in a crate and in the car. Wants to bond with someone and go home, he has a very expressive face and will make a great companion dog. He is also young.
Reba, appears to be a boxer mix and she is only about six/seven months old, rolls over to give you her tummy. She is a little scared of what is going on with her but loves affection. She is small and will not be a large dog.
Cole is a five month old pup, and he is a mix, could be anything. He is a typical puppy wanting attention and someone to rub his belly. He will not be very big either.
Kay and Delilah may go to a rescue group in Austin. Will update as soon as I get more information. Momma May and puppies: Momma May is a very small Pit Bull mix and we don't know what the puppies are mixed with.
Trooper, Katy (which turned out to be a male)and Chiquita were recently placed in the shelter, along with Grace, who also turned out to be a male . These dogs are pit mixes and will be put down soon because of room. If you have any interest in these pets, call or visit soon! I will try and get more pictures up on the blog since the pictures on the flyer are not clear, along with more information on each dog.

This is Sandy...a 3 to 4 month old Dachshund mix female. She was surrendered because the owners live in an apartment and it wasn't fair for Sandy to have to live in a kennel all day and wait for her owners to come home. What an intense look from a cute little guy. He is ready to go home with someone special. This is Petri (pronounced Pee-Tree). He is a seven year old neutered Dachshund who was surrendered by his owner. He is a little shy at first but warms up to you quickly. Very quiet too as the shelter hasnt heard him bark.
